Define the Requirements
Family development begins by identifying the component's intended use, required level of detail, information fields and expected variations. Reference drawings, dimensions and manufacturer information are reviewed before modelling begins.
Build Efficient Geometry
Geometry is created using suitable reference planes, constraints and nesting methods. The family should provide sufficient detail for drawings and coordination without introducing unnecessary geometry that increases file size or affects model performance.
Organise Types, Parameters and Assemblies
Types and parameters are structured to control dimensions, materials, visibility and other relevant information. Clear naming conventions and appropriate use of type or instance parameters make the family easier to understand and manage. Where required, multiple Revit families can also be combined into reusable assemblies representing complete systems or equipment, improving consistency and simplifying model development
Test Before Use
The completed family or assembly is loaded into a test project and checked across different views, detail levels and parameter combinations. Dimensions, constraints, visibility settings and scheduled information are reviewed to confirm that it behaves reliably before project use.
